New York readers coming to learn of Mayim Bialik divorce

Most New York couples who divorce will not have the media frenzy that whips up around celebrities. Still, many can likely relate to how disruptive divorce can be without all the public attention. Former "Blossom" star and current "Big Bang Theory" cast member, Mayim Bialik, recently announced that she and her husband have filed for divorce. Having been married for nine years to husband Michael Stone, Bialik cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the filing.

The 36-year-old actress and her husband have two children, ages four and seven, which she states are the couple's priority. Bialik and her husband practice a philosophy of parenting known as attachment parenting, which encourages an almost constant state of physical contact with children. Bialik contends that their parenting choices have not played a part in their decision to divorce.

Bialik says she and Stone are putting their children's needs at the top of the priority list when it comes to the process of their divorce. She says they are working toward a smooth transition from one loving home to two. The couple is known for being private about their personal life, and Bialik has respectfully requested that their privacy be respected as they move forward.

After so many years as a television star, Bialik may have considerable assets. These may come into question during the divorce. Many celebrities choose to sign a prenuptial agreement in the event of divorce, though Bialik and Stone have not commented on whether they have one in place.

Whether celebrity or not, complex or high net-worth assets can create complications during divorce. To ease the property division process, couples may find it best to seek the guidance of an objective third party who is experienced in navigating complex divorce cases.
